Find what you want to know. Start with a search.
Search EasyKnow for subjects, concepts, terminology, phrases and commonly asked questions. Use a few distinctive words to begin, then refine your search when you need more specific results.
Use a subject, phrase, keyword or question. You do not need to know an exact article title.
Add a distinctive word when a broad search returns too many unrelated results.
Use categories, terminology and related subjects when you are researching a broader topic.
EasyKnow is organised as an online encyclopedia covering a broad range of subjects and questions. Search is designed to help you move from a word, phrase or question to relevant content, whether you already know what you want to find or are beginning to explore an unfamiliar subject.
How to Search Effectively
Use the most recognisable name for the subject you want to research. A few meaningful words are often a practical starting point.
If a broad search produces too many results, add a word identifying the relevant field, application, industry or subject area.
If the results are not useful, remove unnecessary words or try an alternative term, abbreviation, spelling or broader concept.
How to Search EasyKnow
You can search for subjects, technical terms, business concepts, health topics, questions, phrases and other information covered by the EasyKnow knowledge base. A search does not normally need to be written as a complete sentence.
For example, you could search for artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, business strategy, diabetes or what is inflation.
Start with the words most closely associated with what you want to learn. If the first results are too broad, add a more specific term. If the results do not appear relevant, shorten or reword the search.
Search for a Specific Subject
If you already know what you want to research, search using the most recognisable name for the subject. This is often the simplest way to locate an article about a defined topic.
Examples include artificial intelligence, computer networks, entrepreneurship, diabetes, investment and cloud computing.
If the subject has alternative names, abbreviations or different spellings, try another version when the first search does not produce the expected result.
Search for a Question
EasyKnow contains both encyclopaedic subject articles and question-focused content. You can therefore search using the question you actually want answered rather than converting it into a subject first.
Questions such as what is machine learning, how does inflation work, why is cybersecurity important or what is a database can be useful starting points.
If a complete question produces poor results, shorten it to the central subject. For example, replace a long question about protecting a business from cyber attacks with business cybersecurity or simply cybersecurity.
Search for a Word, Phrase or Term
You can search for individual words, specialist terminology, phrases, acronyms and other expressions used throughout the EasyKnow knowledge base.
If you do not know the terminology normally associated with a subject, begin with the words you do know. A useful result may introduce terminology that can then be used for more precise searches.
When a Search Produces Too Many Results
Broad terms can refer to many different subjects. If your results are too general, add another distinctive word or phrase that identifies the particular context you are researching.
For example, instead of searching only for security, you could try cybersecurity business, network security or website security, depending on the subject you need.
When a Search Produces No Useful Results
If the first search does not produce a useful result, do not assume that EasyKnow contains no related information. Shorten the query, remove unnecessary words, change the wording or try a broader concept.
You can also browse the EasyKnow categories. Browsing can be useful when you are exploring a subject or are unsure which terminology to use.
If you believe EasyKnow should cover a subject that is not currently available, you can suggest a topic.
Spelling and Alternative Terms
Search results can depend on the words used in the query. If you do not find what you expect, try spelling variations, alternative terminology, abbreviations, singular or plural forms, or another commonly used name.
EasyKnow uses British English, so some content may use British rather than American spelling. For example, you may encounter organisation rather than organization. Trying both forms can be useful when searching for a particular subject.
Technical subjects can also have several names. If you know an abbreviation, full name or alternative expression, try that wording separately.
Browse by Category
Search is not the only way to find information on EasyKnow. If you would rather explore subjects by area of knowledge, use the category directories.
Each current category contains exactly 2,000 pieces of content: 1,000 encyclopaedic subject articles and 1,000 question-focused articles.
Understanding Search Results
Search results are generated using the search service configured for EasyKnow. Results may change as EasyKnow's content changes and as the underlying search service updates its indexing and ranking systems.
The order in which results appear should not be interpreted as an endorsement, certification, recommendation or statement about the quality or importance of an article, organisation, product, service or external website.
A result may also match your search terms without answering your precise question. Read the result title and description carefully before relying on a page.
Searching for Current Information
Search results should not be treated as proof that information is current. Legislation, regulations, software, cybersecurity threats, healthcare guidance, business conditions, products, prices and technical standards can change.
When the date or currency of information matters, check the article itself and verify important facts against the relevant current primary or official source.
This is particularly important when information could affect your health, safety, finances, legal rights, contractual obligations or other significant interests.
Using Search for Health Information
EasyKnow may contain general information about health, medicine, diseases, symptoms, treatments, nutrition and related subjects. Such information is provided for general educational and reference purposes.
An encyclopedia article cannot account for an individual's medical history, symptoms, medicines, allergies or circumstances and should not replace an appropriate medical assessment or professional healthcare advice.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency or urgent health problem, use the appropriate emergency or healthcare service rather than relying on an online search or encyclopedia article.
Using Search for Legal, Financial or Business Information
EasyKnow may contain general information about law, regulation, taxation, finance and business. Search results should be treated as starting points for research rather than personalised legal, tax or financial advice.
Laws and regulations can differ between jurisdictions and change over time. When researching a legal or regulatory issue, check the relevant jurisdiction, date and authoritative source.
For significant legal, financial, tax, regulatory or contractual decisions, consider obtaining advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
Using Search for Technical and Cybersecurity Information
EasyKnow may contain information about software, hardware, networking, programming, cybersecurity and other technical subjects. Technical information can become outdated as software versions, specifications, standards and security conditions change.
Before implementing instructions that could affect systems, accounts, data or infrastructure, check current official documentation and appropriate security guidance.
Do not use information found through EasyKnow to access, test, modify or disrupt systems without appropriate authorisation. You remain responsible for ensuring that your activities comply with applicable law, contracts and permissions.
Search Results and External Websites
Search results may direct you towards external websites. EasyKnow does not control third-party websites and cannot guarantee their availability, accuracy, security, accessibility, legality, privacy practices or continued operation.
An external search result or link does not necessarily constitute an endorsement, recommendation or certification by EasyKnow.
Before providing personal information, purchasing something, downloading software, entering into an agreement or relying on information from an external website, review that website's own terms, privacy information and other applicable notices.
Search, Privacy and Personal Information
Avoid entering unnecessary personal, confidential or sensitive information into a search query. Search queries should generally describe the subject you want to research rather than identify you or another person.
Never enter passwords, authentication codes, payment-card details, private keys or other confidential credentials into a website search box.
For information about how EasyKnow handles personal information and related technologies, see the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Accessibility and Search
The search page is intended to work across different browsers, devices and assistive technologies. The search field has an accessible label and the form can be operated using standard keyboard controls.
If you experience a barrier involving keyboard navigation, screen readers, magnification, contrast, focus, mobile devices or another accessibility technology, see the Accessibility page.
You can also contact support@easyknow.org to report an accessibility problem.
Search Problems and Technical Errors
If the search page is not working, the search button does nothing, the search service does not open, a result appears broken or another technical problem prevents you from searching, first try refreshing the page and repeating the search.
If the problem continues, try another search phrase or browser where practical. A temporary problem with an external search service can produce different behaviour from a problem with EasyKnow itself.
If you believe there is a problem with EasyKnow, you can report an error or contact support@easyknow.org.
What to Include When Reporting a Search Problem
If you contact EasyKnow about a search problem, provide the page address, the search terms used, a description of what happened and, where relevant, the browser, device or operating system involved.
If an error message appears, include the exact wording where practical. A screenshot may also help if it does not contain personal or confidential information.
Do not send passwords, authentication codes, payment information, private keys, cookies or other confidential credentials when reporting a technical issue.
Search Does Not Guarantee an Article Exists
The absence of a result does not mean that a subject does not exist or that information about it is unavailable elsewhere. It means that the configured search service did not return a matching result at that time.
EasyKnow is a growing knowledge resource rather than an exhaustive record of every subject, term, event, person, organisation, question or concept.
If you believe an important subject is missing, you can suggest a topic.
Search Is Not Professional Advice
A search result is a navigation and discovery tool. It is not a professional assessment of the information you are seeking and does not guarantee that a particular article is accurate, current or appropriate for your individual circumstances.
For high-consequence decisions, use search to locate potentially useful background information and then verify relevant facts through appropriate authoritative sources or qualified professionals.
Copyright and Search Results
Search results may display titles, descriptions or other information generated by the configured search service. The appearance of a result does not transfer copyright or other intellectual property rights to the person viewing it.
Do not assume that content found through search can be copied, republished or commercially reused simply because it appears in search results. Copyright ownership, licensing terms and statutory exceptions depend on the material and intended use.
Third-Party Search Technology
The EasyKnow search page uses a Google Custom Search Engine to provide search functionality. Selecting the search button sends the query to the configured Google search service.
Because the search functionality uses third-party technology, aspects of the search experience, result presentation, availability and processing may be determined by that service rather than EasyKnow.
For information about third-party processing and applicable privacy practices, review the relevant third party's current information in addition to the EasyKnow Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Search and Children
Search queries should contain only the information necessary to find the subject being researched. Children and other users should not enter passwords, private information, contact details or other sensitive information into a search field.
Parents, guardians, teachers and other responsible adults may wish to help younger users evaluate search results and distinguish general educational information from professional advice or authoritative sources.
Search for Research and Education
EasyKnow can be used as a starting point for educational research, revision, background reading and general exploration.
For academic or formal work, independently verify important claims and consult the sources required by your school, college, university, employer or other institution. EasyKnow search results should not automatically be treated as authoritative academic sources.
If you use information from EasyKnow in academic work, follow the citation and attribution requirements applicable to your institution and assignment.
Finding an Article That Has Moved
EasyKnow may reorganise categories, update pages or change its website structure as the project develops. A previously accessible page may therefore move, be renamed, replaced or become unavailable.
If an old EasyKnow URL no longer works, search for the subject again using the search box above or browse the relevant category.
If you believe an existing EasyKnow page has been incorrectly removed or a useful link is broken, you can report an error.
When You Cannot Find What You Need
If you have tried several searches without finding useful information, work through these approaches:
- Try fewer search words.
- Try alternative terminology or spelling.
- Search for the broader subject.
- Search for a distinctive technical or specialist term.
- Browse the relevant EasyKnow category.
- Search for the subject rather than the complete question.
- Use an appropriate authoritative external source for information not covered by EasyKnow.
- Suggest the subject to EasyKnow if you believe it should be added.
